How to Specify Planter Dimensions for Grower Pots
Use the actual grower pot whenever possible. Its rim, taper and height matter as much as the nominal size printed on a specification.
Start with the actual grower pot
Our grower customers normally provide their production pot, or at least its dimensions. Xiamen Green develops the decorative planter around that reference so the result is neither too tight nor too loose for the intended pairing.
Those words express the goal, not a measurable tolerance. Before approval, define what the buyer expects: whether the grower-pot rim sits above, level with or below the decorative opening, whether the pot must be easily removable, and whether a liner shares the space.
Where possible, supply the actual pot. If dimensions are the only starting point, provide a sketch with units and measurement locations. The decorative planter's outside diameter is not a substitute for its usable interior opening.
Record the dimensions that control fit

Keep units consistent. Record an agreed clearance and manufacturing tolerance for the actual pairing rather than assigning a universal gap to all pots.
Check the complete pairing
Use the sample review to check insertion, intended rim position, stability and removal. A pot that enters the opening may still sit too high, lean on an internal feature or be difficult to remove. These are practical review questions, not claims about a particular product's measured fit.
Include the intended liner and accessories in that review. If the design changes after a liner is added, update the usable measurements and revisit the pairing. Discuss drainage and water containment separately from geometric fit.
For ceramic planters, compare the fired sample with the requirement and agree the permitted variation. A nominal size or catalog code alone should not be treated as confirmation that every grower pot with that label will fit.
Keep the approved fit reproducible
Our four-sample arrangement provides a customer approval piece, factory standard, QC reference and Xiamen Green backup from the same sample batch. Connect those references to the dimensioned brief and record which grower pot was used for the fit decision.
For a repeat order, identify changes to the grower pot, planter shape, liner or intended rim position before assuming the earlier pairing still applies. If no physical pot was supplied initially, make the remaining fit confirmation explicit before treating the program as approved.
